The temporary Lagoon Pond drawbridge underwent close scrutiny by representatives from the manufacturer, contractor, and state Department of Transportation during a test in April 2010.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) will close the Lagoon Pond drawbridge from 9 pm Tuesday, November 15, through 5 am Wednesday, November 16, in order to do a series of openings and closings to test the bridge auxiliary drive motor and generator.

Motorists who use the bridge to travel between Vineyard Haven and Oak Bluffs must take an alternate route during those hours. A detour will be posted with signs and message boards.

Emergency and first responder vehicles will be allowed to pass over the bridge at all times and testing will be halted for their passage, in the event of an emergency, according to a MassDOT spokesman.
