The Vineyard Tennis Center, Workout and Spa hosted the 16th annual Turkey Open Tennis Tournament last weekend. The event included over 40 players in mixed doubles competition.

In the Pilgrim Draw, Gene Erez and Cathy Lattanzi won the final over Steve Mussell and Kelly Hess. Cathy and Gene had a smooth ride to the final, defeating Peter and Sandy Lally in the opening round and scoring a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Nate and Laureen Morgan in the semi-final. Their steady rallies and well-timed lobs kept their opponents off balance.

Leo McHugh and Michelle Bettencourt were the standouts in the consolation draw. They prevailed in a close match against Rich Kugler and Wander Sumner 2-6, 7-6, (10-5) and bested Sandy and Peter Lally in the final.

The other half of the players competed in the Turkey Draw. Nina Bramhall and Paul Schneider were the most gifted gobblers, prevailing in the final over Sandi Nadelstein and Kelly Nagi 2-6, 6-4, (10-4).

The champs booked their spot in the final with a 6-4, 6-7, (10-3) semi-final win over Deb Cooper and Ken Armstead.

All the proceeds from the tournament will go to Doctors Without Borders, who serve communities around the globe. The club would like to thank Stop and Shop for partnering with the Vineyard Tennis Center, Workout and Spa and for providing the turkeys as prizes for the champions.
