Water Alliance and MVC host talk on nitrogen reduction in ponds
The Martha's Vineyard Commission (MVC) and the Martha's Vineyard Water Alliance will co-sponsor a presentation on alternative strategies to reduce nitrogen in coastal ponds at 5 pm, Tuesday, November 30 at the Howes House in West Tisbury.
Guest speakers Earle Barnhart and Hilde Maingay of the Citizens for Economic and Ecological Sustainability (CEES) will describe how eco-toilets, shellfish culture, and other green innovative techniques may be used to reduce nitrogen in coastal ponds at a lower cost than conventional approaches.
Participants will be asked to discuss how some of the green techniques could be implemented on the Island. Audience members will be invited to share their experiences and expertise. For more information, call 508-693-3453.
