Martha’s Vineyard 8th grade girls outscore basketball rivals

Martha’s Vineyard’s 8th grade girls basketball team played in the Kim Craft Tournament at Falmouth Academy last weekend and won all three of their games.

The first game pitted the Islanders against a very good Burlington (MA) team. The MV girls met the challenge winning, 44-39. Erin Hill led the scorers with 10 points. Sam Hargy added nine and Kaitlyn Marchand, eight.

The second opponent was a scrappy, but over-matched Falmouth seventh grade team. The Vineyard eighth graders prevailed, 47-17. Erin Hill led the parade to the hoop collecting a dozen points. Both Sam Hargy and Emily Turney added nine.

On Sunday, the Vineyarders played their Cape league foe, the Falmouth eighth graders. The Islanders kept on winning, 57-36. Mya Houston and Sam Hargy paced the attack, each with ten points. Erin Hill contributed nine and Whitney Schroeder, eight.

The Cape Youth Travel League starts play December 3-4. The Islanders are coached by Maureen Hill and Joe Schroeder.
