Kids shop too at Holly Day Fair

The annual Holly Day Luncheon and Fair at Grace Episcopal Church in Vineyard Haven this Saturday, Dec. 3, 10 am to 2 pm, is packed with traditional Christmas bazaar treats. There will be baked goods galore, handmade crafts, ornaments, and wearables, a White Elephant Table with gently used gifts of every description and a silent auction with some unique offerings. Mini-lobster-rolls and homemade soups highlight the luncheon menu along with assorted sandwiches and Christmas cookies. Lunch is served from 11 am to 1 pm.

A popular and less familiar attraction is the Children’s Shopping Room. Youngsters can browse and choose bargain-priced gifts for friends and family and have them gift-wrapped too.

All proceeds benefit Episcopal Relief and Development which works to help the needy around the world.

Fundraising for Lisa

Two Lisa BenDavid Scannell benefit Martha’s Vineyard Dream Vacation packages will be raffled off on Sunday, Dec. 5 at the annual M.V. Horse Council Awards event, beginning at 2 pm at the Ag Hall in West Tisbury.

In June, Lisa Scannell was seriously injured in a riding accident, breaking her pelvis and necessitating months of rehabilitation and healing. The Island community responded, and the You’ve Got a Friend, Inc. of the Martha’s Vineyard Savings Bank set up a fund to which contributions could be made to help offset some of the expenses the family has incurred.

A small group of Horse Council recently created two one-of-a-kind vacations: The Down-Island-Up-Island Dream vacation with nights at the Victorian Inn in Edgartown and the Captain Flanders House in Chilmark are the anchors of one dream vacation, and the Historic Music Street Family Vacation with eight nights in Dianne Powers’ guest house with all the amenities is the second. Both packages come with dinners, sight-seeing, sailing, and merchandise donated by Island businesses.

Tickets are still on sale, $100 each, and can be purchased until Sunday, Dec. 4 at 12 noon by calling 508-693-4563.

Books for Brothers and Sisters

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Martha’s Vineyard and Bunch of Grapes Bookstore in Vineyard Haven have teamed up to offer a unique gift giving opportunity for the holiday season.

Little brothers and sisters who are part of the mentoring program are invited to visit Bunch of Grapes and create a wish list with six titles of books they would like to have. Bookstore staff is always available to help littles find and choose books.

Community members may view the wish lists at the bookstore and choose a book to give to a little. Bunch of Grapes has offered to discount these gifts by 20 percent. This opportunity is available until December 31. For further information contact Connie Alexander, advisory board member, at 508-693-0101.
