Farm Neck Foundation awards 2011 grants totaling $36,000

The Farm Neck Foundation recently announced that it awarded a total of $36,000 in grants to 16 separate Vineyard organizations in 2011.

The Farm Neck Golf Club in Oak Bluffs created the foundation in 1989 to provide charitable assistance exclusively on Martha’s Vineyard. Since then, the foundation has given over $640,000 to Island charities and civic-minded organizations, according to its website.

The grants included: $2,000 to Women Empowered to improve their outreach through web site and brochure updates and advertising; $2,500 to Habitat for Humanity of Martha’s Vineyard to purchase tools and construction equipment; $2,250 to the YMCA of Martha’s Vineyard to purchase supplies for the Child Watch Program; $2,500 to American Legion Post No. 186 to help with building renovation costs; $3,000 to Martha’s Vineyard Association of EMTs to help fund the purchase of a human body simulator for training; $3,000 to The Nature Conservancy Islands Program to fund two seasonal internships; $1,300 to Garden Gate Child Development Center, Inc. to help cover artist fees for the “Art for Education” program; $2,500 to Island Gymnastics Training School, Inc. to purchase new protective mats; $1,000 to the MV Youth Soccer Program to cover travel and training costs for soccer coaches; $3,100 to the National Alliance on Mental Illness Cape Cod & The Islands Affiliate to help fund a recovery education course on Martha’s Vineyard; $ 2,750 to the Vineyard Nursing Association to send a nurse to a specialized training course on wound care; $1,600 to the Chilmark Preschool to purchase 16 violins; $2,000 to the Martha’s Vineyard Film Festival to support the expansion of educational programs for children; $2,000 to the Youth Task Force to purchase supplies for the Island’s six police departments to help with underage drinking prevention; $1,500 to the Martha’s Vineyard Museum to help fund their exhibit, Show Time: 100 Years of Theater on Martha’s Vineyard; and $3,000 to The Vineyard Playhouse, a matching grant to help purchase a new professional quality audio system.
