The lights have been hung with care in anticipation of the upcoming holiday season. Towns have been decorated to evoke happiness and good will, including Edgartown, which has been enthusiastically spreading holiday cheer in anticipation of the upcoming weekend’s Christmas in Edgartown Celebration (December 9 through 11).

This year will be the 30th annual celebration and in respect for this milestone there will be more to do, along with bigger store savings than ever before. Don’t miss a minute, starting with the first scheduled event at The Anchor’s on Friday. Beginning at 11 am, and ending at 1:30 pm, there will be a Chili Bar and a performance at 1 pm by Vintage Voices, who will be singing popular songs as well as hosting a Christmas singalong. Once you have filled your belly and hearts with good cheer, it will be a perfect time to get started on your holiday shopping.

Keep in mind that all weekend long shoppers can receive raffle tickets at participating stores and restaurants in town for a wide variety of great prizes, and you have a whole weekend of shopping and dining to collect as many chances as possible.

On Saturday you may receive extra discounts and benefits at such places as Martha’s Vineyard Museum, Petunia’s Shoes, The Boneyard, Claudia Jewelry, Gettigear, Jack Wills, Alex & Ani, Edgartown Books, 20 Main, Soigné, Summer Shades, and Edgartown Meat & Fish to name a few.

M.V. Museum will be hosting numerous Author’s Talks beginning at 11 am on Saturday. While enjoying the talks, you will also have an opportunity to have your books autographed and shop in the gift shop with either a 10 percent discount for non-members or a 20 percent discount if you are a Museum member (this discount holds true throughout the weekend festivities). For a full list of speakers, books and times see the Christmas in Edgartown Calendar of Events in this week’s paper.

Petunia’s Shoes has a buy one get one half-off Flip Flop Festival from 2 to 5 pm and The Boneyard will be having hourly raffle winners, so make sure to stop by and register. Claudia Jewelry is hosting a Local Jewelry Trunk Show from Friday through Sunday, and make sure you bring in your 10 percent off coupon from last week’s paper on one full priced item (there are only a few exclusions). Quench your thirst with a visit to Summer Shades on Main Street, as they are offering mimosas and cookies throughout the day, with a drawing at the end of the day for a pair of $100 Oakley sunglasses.

Claire Murray is hosting their Grand Holiday Sale, where you can save 50 percent and more off storewide items, which means their hand-hooked rugs, home accessories, gifts, and more. Jack Wills will have available private shopping appointments throughout the weekend. Just call Caity at 508-939-4371 to schedule your appointment, or stop by on Saturday from 10 am to 6 pm for their Open House, where you may try some traditional homemade mince pies and Virgin Wassail, English Chocolates and Teas, and for the kids their very own Santa Letter Station, where Jack Wills will make sure they arrive safely to Santa at the North Pole.

Gettigear, a women’s athletic apparel store, is offering a deal regarding SPIbelts. Purchase one between 12 noon and 5 pm and receive a prize, ranging from discount coupons to free merchandise. At Alex & Ani, a jewelry store, you will receive a free gift with purchase, and Cashmere Christmas is happening at 20 Main from 12 noon to 2 pm.

Edgartown Books is also hosting Book Signings at their shop on Main Street from 11 am to 3 pm, with eight authors and artists. Then, why not finish your afternoon of shopping at Edgartown Meat & Fish where they are hosting a tasting of their holiday roast selections, wine, and Savory Pie Company goodies, from 4 to 6 pm, which benefits Hospice of M.V. While there you can pick up your entire dinner, from marinated meats to seafood kabobs, including sides, to make a breeze out of cooking dinner that night.

Also in town is the 19th annual Arts and Crafts Show and Raffle at the Edgartown School Gym on Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm. The Federated Church is also having an Elves Fair in support of The Plum Hill Preschool Program, also on Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm.

For a full list of all the Christmas in Edgartown events, including the Lighting of the Edgartown Lighthouse, the Holiday Parade with 30 participants, and the many activities for the whole family, look at the complete schedule here in this week’s paper or online at edgartownboardoftrade.com.
