Changes at MVTV

To the Editor:

These are exciting times at MVTV, the Island’s community access television station.

We welcome back Stephen Warriner as our interim executive director, as well as Carl Holt as training and operations manager. They form a great team with Michelle Vivian, our access coordinator, and Laura Edgar, our programming and facilities coordinator.

The station is humming along and looking forward to continued growth and improvement in our service to the community.

New members of the board are John McCormick and Richard Knabel. The board would like to thank Francine Kelly and Jack Scanlan for their years of marvelous service to the station on behalf of the Island community.

I have been elected chairman of the board, and I realize the shoes that Denys Wortman wore for the past nine years are impossible to fill. The station would not be all that it is without Denys’s devotion and tireless effort.

The growth of the station and its membership has outpaced the current facility. Negotiations are in place to buy property near the current location, and the board has hired Bruce MacNelly of the Vineyard architectural firm, MacNelly Cohen, to design a facility that will meet our needs now and for the foreseeable future. The engineering and permitting process is beginning, and we hope to have the project underway soon.

The technology needed to keep our channels up and running is always a challenge. We have new servers, and are able to put a lot of Vineyard media on the air. So join us, take some classes, produce a television show (or a series), and help us be all that we can be. MVTV is your cable media outlet.
