A secret Santa
To the Editor:
I want to say thank you to my secret Santa. I learned this touching story when opening my stocking presents on Christmas Day.
Last Thursday afternoon, my husband and son were in Vineyard Haven shopping for my stocking gifts. They stopped at Cumberland Farms to get a few treats and a couple of lottery tickets. Unfortunately, my husband found out that lottery tickets can't be purchased with a credit card, and the cash machine in the store was out of order so he could not pay.
Just as he was trying to figure out how to pay the bill, a mysterious secret Santa placed $40 on the counter, quickly left the store and paid his tab. What a generous act of Vineyard kindness. Since we can't repay our secret Santa, we are making an equal donation to the Island Food Pantry.
