Conroy Apothecary is located in a row of businesses off State Road in West Tisbury.

West Tisbury police are investigating an attempted break-in at Conroy Apothecary on State Road in West Tisbury late Monday night. Thieves cut the building's electricity in an unsuccessful effort to circumvent the pharmacy's alarm and surveillance camera system.

West Tisbury police Sgt. Matthew Mincone responded to a burglar alarm at 10:38 pm, Monday. He found an open back door, police Chief Dan Rossi told The Times.

"Once the building was cleared, he started looking around and found that the electricity was shut off to the building," Chief Rossi said.

The electricity had been shut off one hour earlier, police determined. It is unclear why the thieves waited after disconnecting the power supply to attempt entry. Chief Rossi said that the thieves apparently did not know that the alarm and cameras were unaffected by the power shut-off. Nothing was taken or disturbed.

Police are reviewing the camera tapes and processing evidence. Chief Rossi said owners Stan and Tami Hersh have upgraded the camera system to enhance building security.

Chief Rossi asked anyone with information to call 508-693-0020.
