Community rallies to support victim of New Year's Day fire
On New Year's Day a fast moving fire completely destroyed the Oak Bluffs home of Paola Ayala Fuller. Now her many friends are pitching in to help the young woman rebuild her belongings and get back on her feet.
"Everything she owned was incinerated," Kim Wells, a friend and organizer said in an email to The Times.
Ms. Wells said there has been a huge outpouring of concern from across the Vineyard community and beyond, and many caring people have asked how to help. Friends have set up a facebook page (facebook.com/friendsofpaola) and are planning a benefit fundraiser from 5 pm to 8 pm, Saturday, January 21 at Season's Restaurant in Oak Bluffs that will include music and an auction.
Ms. Fuller's employer, the Martha's Vineyard Chamber of Commerce office located at 24 Beach Road in Vineyard Haven, is accepting contributions by mail (Friends of Paola, P.O Box 1698, Vineyard Haven, MA 02568) and credit card (508-693-0085, ext. 17).
For more information or to make a donation for the auction and raffle the night of the event, contact Kim Wells (508-696-3737), Barbara Willmott (508-696-0271) or Catie Fuller (508-776-7032).
