Tisbury firefighters snuff out fire on Hillman's Point Way

January 11, 2012

Tisbury firefighters, EMS personnel, and police responded to a fire early Wednesday morning at 52 Hillman's Point Way on the west side of Lake Tashmoo.

"It was reported by a worker who arrived at 3 am to begin work at a residence under renovation," Tisbury fire chief John Schilling said yesterday. "It was a small fire, with very minimal burn damage and extensive heat and smoke damage, contained to the one room. No one was hurt."

Chief Schilling said the house, owned by Ed Cottle, was unoccupied while being renovated.

Since there are no fire hydrants nearby, Chief Schilling said the West Tisbury Fire Department, called for mutual aid and support, responded with a tank truck.

Fortunately the fire was extinguished with less than a tankful of water, Chief Schilling said, and the West Tisbury truck was not tapped. Emergency responders were on the scene for about an hour.
