The M.V. Peewees played a double-header Sunday against the Lower Cape Coyotes.

Lower Cape led 3-2 after one period, 4-3 after two, and scored an empty netter in third to win 5-3. Colin Buckley scored in the first period for M.V. Jacob Gundersen scored in the second stanza and added another in the third, with an assist from Jack Garrett.

The Islanders were outshot 15-12, but they played well against a physical team.

In the second game of the twin-bill, M.V. lost in another tight contest, 4-3.

The Vineyard Squirts lost a pair of games to SWS Sunday at the M.V. Arena.

In the first game, Hunter Ponte notched a hat trick and Cabot Thurber had three assists but the Stars prevailed 4-3. In game two, SWS rolled 8-5. Hunter Meader scored twice. Cabot Thurber, Hunter Ponte, and Felix Colon lit the lamp once. Hailey Meader had three assists. Joe Kershaw was the winning goalie.

Sunday, at Tabor Academy in Marion, the Vineyard Mites beat Gateway, 3-1.

Garden fame

The Vineyard Mites experienced the thrill of a lifetime Saturday when they hit the ice and the big time at the TD Garden in Boston for a three-minute scrimmage between periods at the Bruins-Penguins game.

Mites coach Geoghan Coogan arranged the scrimmage, known as the Three Minutes of Fame, with the Bruins earlier in the season. The Bruins hold the scrimmages during a number of home games throughout the season.
