I suppose if I say something about how fortunate we have been this winter with moderate temperatures the norm, we will immediately have a cold snap. It won’t be any more depressing than the mood around New England and the Island after the Super Bowl game on Sunday. Well, like we Red Sox fans say, “wait until next year.”
Make Valentines for the ones you love. The Oak Bluffs Library is sponsoring a Valentine Crafts Saturday, Feb. 11, from 10 am to 12 noon. This event is for all ages and it’s free.
ACE MV, cosponsored by the Martha’s Vineyard Museum, will hold a class called Cooking through Cultures from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm, on Thursday, Feb. 2. This time the focus is on Brazilian/Portuguese Cooking with Elton Nascimento at MVRHS. There is a $35 fee.
Also on Thursday, there will be a class from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm on Understanding Medicare with Mary Leddy at MVRHS. There will be a $35 fee. You may get info online for both classes and pre-register at acemv.org.
On Saturday, Feb. 11, from 8 am to 4 pm the Y is holding a cycle-a-thon in the spirit of celebrating community love this Valentine’s Day to benefit their Y Scholarship Program. There will be 10 bikes of cyclers riding for 8 hours. Cyclers will ride in one-hour intervals and collect donations to sponsor part of their ride. Bikes are limited, so sign up to be a cycler or sponsor. Sign up by calling 508-696-7171 or at the Y Member Services Desk. There will be snacks and fun for all.
Featherstone’s After School Art Program for Island High School Students has a new offering this Winter/Spring session in February, March, April, and May. On Tuesdays there will be a photography class that includes photo shooting, developing and printing film. Wednesdays during those months, a ceramics class is offered. Thursdays will be mixed media classes. All of the classes will be free to students. Condolences to the family of Nancy Jane Farrissey, wife of Andrew Farrissey and mother of Andy Farrissey, who died last week after a long illness. She was a lovely lady who made many friends and so enjoyed her grandchildren. We are so very sorry.
Keyshawn Joseph Devine, was born on January 29 and welcomed by his parents Heather Ferreira, and Keith Devine of Aquinnah , big brother Kayden and sister Jasmine. His grandparents are Sandy Ferreira of Vineyard Haven, Tony Ferreira of Oak Bluffs, Shirley Grant of Brockton, and Byram Devine of Vineyard Haven. Great-grandparents are Susie Jenkinson of Windemere and Peter Jenkinson of Oak Bluffs.
