Karate instructor Timothy Merriman of Blitz Fitness in West Tisbury traveled with students Julia Bettencourt and Preston Averill to the New England Classic at Franklin Pierce University, February 11.
The Blitz Lightning Team finished in third place for team fighting. Mr. Merriman placed fourth in his division for kata (prescribed forms), Ms. Bettencourt placed first in kata and sparring, and Mr. Averill won the sparring competition.
