Teens know it’s Movie Night at the Vineyard Haven Library. Starting at 6 pm they can enjoy Brad Pitt, Sean Penn, and Jessica Chastain. The story follows the life journey of the eldest son Jack through childhood to his adult years as he tries to reconcile a complicated relationship with his father. This film is rated PG-13.

Adults are invited to enjoy Art in the Stacks featuring Nancy Crossley Blank at the library throughout the month. An instructor at Featherstone and an experienced artist, Nancy’s works are mixed media using silkscreen, graphite, transfers, and acrylic paint done on metal printing plates. The images, including carousel ponies and piggies, are intended to be fun. The color, layering, and edges also make these pieces intriguing.

The Martha’s Vineyard branch of the NAACP invites you to the 27th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Membership and Awards Dinner this Saturday at the Grill on Main Street in Edgartown. Following the dinner a civil rights conversation, moderated by Elizabeth Rawlins, features guest speakers Lucy Hackney and Rose Styron. Karen Achille, Armen Hanjian, and Connie Texeira will be honored for their outstanding service to the Vineyard community and the MV NAACP. Tickets include a membership to the MV NAACP. Oscar-nominated live action short films will be shown at 7:30 at the Cornell Theatre on Saturday. The best one sounds like “The Shore.” An Irishman takes his American daughter to show her Belfast. Things don’t quite go as he planned. This is only one of five films.

Next Tuesday night find out more about the Tisbury Board of Selectmen at 7 pm at the V.H. Library. Cora Medeiros and Geoghan Coogan will explain the responsibilities and the limits of their power. Find out how they work with various boards and committees. The moderator is Bea Phear.

Wouldn’t you like to help lead the afterschool walking club at the Tisbury School? Lyndsay Famaris wants some adult volunteers who would like to help. Last year this was a successful program for children Kindergarten through 8th grade once a week. Welcome home to Peter and Lee Scott. They had a wonderful trip with their daughter, son-in-law, and their two girls, Julia aged 4 and Anna aged 8, to Italy. They spent time in Venice, Pompeii, and Rome and even visited La Spezia.
