To the Editor:
I wear many hats at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital: board trustee and officer, chairman of the ethics committee, occasional outpatient and patron of the outstanding cafeteria, EMT, and recently, an inpatient. By now, I’ve pretty much seen how the hospital runs, and I am extremely proud to be associated with it and grateful to have it here.
My fellow EMTs from Oak Bluffs took me in, on mutual aid while our Tisbury ambulance was on another call. Brendan Cooney, Ben Stevens, and Bob Merritt were gentle, kind, thorough, and professional. Relying on our new sophisticated radiology services, Drs. Beland and Zack and the ER staff identified the problem, fixed it and stabilized me before sending me to the chipper and caring folks on the acute care wing. The physical therapists took me in hand and I began to heal. Dawn Gompert was particularly outstanding in her care.
The community came together to build this beautiful, well-equipped new building, and the medical staff matches the physical plant. Thank you all.
