Rasmus "Raz" Sayre, his father, Nevin, and his sister, Solvig, each hold their first place trophies from The Calema Midwinters Festival windsurfing competition in Cocoa Beach, Florida this past week.

Nevin Sayre, his daughter, Solvig, and his son, Rasmus ("Raz"), of Tisbury all won first-place trophies in their divisions at the The Calema Midwinters Festival windsurfing competition in Cocoa Beach, Florida, this past week.

Raz, 14, won the Techno 293 North American Championship in the Under-17 age group. Solvig, 20, a sophomore at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, bested the RS:X Olympic Class in the Women's Division, and Nevin became U.S. National Champion overall in the Kona Class. It was the first time the Sayres had each won their division in a major competition.

"This was a strong win for Raz, who finished second last year in the Under 15 age group in Cozumel, Mexico," Nevin said in an email to The Times. "Although he wasn't necessarily the fastest sailor in a straight line, it really showed that he is becoming a strong tactical sailor. Solvig took another step toward her goal of representing U.S.A. in the 2016 Olympics in Brazil."

Raz is a member of the Martha's Vineyard High School Sailing Team, as was Solvig. They are both on the Vineyard Haven Yacht Club Sailing Team.
