Contemplative prayer retreat

A retreat day of prayer and reflection will be held at Grace Episcopal Church in Vineyard Haven this Saturday, March 10, from 10 am to 3:30 pm. Entitled “Dwelling in the House of the Lord,” the retreat will be led by Ethel Fraga, a long-time meditator and student of contemplative spirituality.

Ms. Fraga has worked with well-known teachers including Dom Bede Griffiths, Father Thomas Keating, Thich Nhat Hahn, and Sharon Salzburg. A retired educator, she leads workshops on Christian contemplative spirituality and centering prayer and serves on the board of Contemplative Outreach of Boston. In this retreat she will weave together scripture with mindful and contemplative living.

A morning session, “The Universe as a Friendly Place,” focuses on developing trust by praying with Psalm 23. After instruction in eating prayerfully, participants will enjoy lunch in appreciative silence. “Ways of being present to the Presence” is the theme of the afternoon session, dedicated to mindful and contemplative living. Prayer opportunities with the Rev. Alden Besse and the Order of St. Luke team will end the afternoon.

Participants should bring their own lunch. For more information or to register, call Susan Kelly at 508-627-9946.
