The Pit Stop, the local music venue that took root this winter on Dukes County Avenue in Oak Bluffs, will celebrate the coming of spring by presenting singer-songwriter Jemima James and her long-time musical friends and partners.
With her warm, truth-telling voice and her 60s-era Gibson Hummingbird guitar, Ms. James is a cornerstone of the Vineyard folk music scene. Before moving to Martha's Vineyard to raise her family, she played in clubs in Greenwich Village, San Francisco, and Los Angeles, where she appeared at The Troubadour and weekly at The Hollywood Canteen. Over the decades she has collaborated with generations of renowned musicians and has made numerous recordings.
Sharing the stage at The Pit Stop with Ms. James will be West Tisbury poet/songwriter Dan Waters, violist/singer/composer Nina Violet, bassist Tauras Biskis, and some surprise guests. It will be an evening of mostly acoustic, mostly original Americana-type songs.
In addition to concerts every Friday and Saturday, The Pit Stop hosts an Open Mic on Mondays, and FleaPit Film Night on Wednesdays at 7. For more information regarding memberships, volunteer opportunities, and events, visit the Pit Stop's Facebook page, email firstname.lastname@example.org, or call 508-693-4219.
