Deb and Ron Nagengast were in town this past week. The unseasonably warm temperatures made Deb do something crazy. On March 22, 2012, Deb took the plunge at Squibnocket. Yes folks, she managed a full-on, head-under swim in the Atlantic.

Spring is here and the kids are enjoying their time outside at school. The PTO just ordered a fresh supply of soccer balls, hula hoops, jump ropes and more to be used during recess and after school. The school is currently looking for donations of child-size helmets to primarily be used during the ice skating session of phys ed. If you have one in good condition please drop it by the school.

Kelly Klaren hit those little yellow balls perfectly with her racquet and won her flight at Center Court Tennis Club in Riverside, R.I., this past weekend. She is really becoming a superstar on the courts.

So here’s a little background information before I share the big news. The brainchild of Brady Lowe, president and creative director of Taste Network, wanted to increase awareness and find a unique way to support local farmers and sustainable agriculture. COCHON 555 is an epicurean’s dream. According to their website, it “is the only heritage pig and chef competition in the U.S.” Their ten-city tour showcases five chefs, five pigs and five winemakers in a friendly competition for a cause. Here’s the kicker that brings this event closer to home.

Chef Jamie Bissonette from Coppa Boston won the competition March 25 at the Mandarin Oriental in the Back Bay with one of The Grey Barn and Farm’s pigs taking center stage. Center stage, in this case, is a dinner plate.

The Library’s 7 pm Free Friday Movie is “Road to Perdition,” a 2002 movie based on the novel by Max Allan Collins. Tom Hanks plays a hit man who must choose between his crime family and his real one. As always, free popcorn and drinks go hand in hand with good company.

Tim Walsh continues to make progress on his fall/winter/spring project. The transformation of his boat from awkward looking vessel to streamlined fishing boat is now clear to the eye.

Scott McDowell is back from his Hawaiian escape. The doors of the Copperworks will soon be open with the melodic sound of clanging metal exuding from within.

The Unicorn has a fresh coat vibrant red paint along the waterline. She has been out to fish for flounder to be used in the up and running Hatchery’s spawning tanks. Very exciting adventure for those in the fishery world.

Two more babies. Although I didn’t get the whole scoop but I do know Michele and Jeremy Mayhew are the proud parents of gorgeous twin girls. Freya Greer and Hailey Risa made their way into the world just in time to hear the pinkletinks in all their springtime glory. Yippee!
