On the road with DCLA

Local band DCLA (Dukes County Love Affair) will celebrate the release of their sophomore CD, Ghost Town Sessions, with a performance in Boston.

On Friday, April 6, the Hard Rock Cafe in Boston will host a show with DCLA as the headliners. The band is renting a bus to take fans to the show and back. Tickets for the bus trip are $30 and include admission to the Hard Rock show. The bus leaves Friday evening and returns on Saturday. For tickets or more information, email Bus seating is limited.

Spring strings

The string students of Rebecca Barca-Tinus will entertain on Sunday, April 1, at the Old Whaling Church in Edgartown at 4 pm. Students ages 3 to 60 will perform a variety of pieces including works by Bach, Vivaldi, and Mozart. Ms. Barca-Tinus celebrates her 21st year teaching string lessons on the Island. Admission is free.

For Grace

This Saturday, March 31, Grace Preschool hosts its annual Spaghetti Dinner and Silent Auction fundraiser, at Grace Church in Vineyard Haven, from 4:30 to 7 pm. Admission is $10; $5 seniors and children; $30 family up to five.

Auction items include a lunch for two at the State House with Senator Dan Wolf, a catered cruise aboard the schooner Perception, a five-course Island-sourced dinner for 10, and more.

Preview auction items from 4 to 5 pm. Take-out is available from 4:30 pm on, and dinner is catered, once again, by Giordano’s Restaurant. Call 508-693-0332 with questions or advance orders.

Promising Young Poets

Pathways’ 2012 Promising Young Poets of Martha’s Vineyard have been chosen, and they will be recognized at 4 pm next Thursday, April 5, at Featherstone in Oak Bluffs. Winners are Annabelle Hackney, Sarah Gruner, Lizzie Kelleher, Oscar Thompson, Paige Taylor, and Claudia Taylor. Runners-up are Maddie Scott and Samantha Valley.
