Spring is a time of renewal. While we do have several stores that stay open 12 months of the year, most begin to liven up in April and May. Both year-round and seasonal stores in Edgartown are hosting wonderful sales to clear their shelves, making way for fresh, new arrivals.

If you missed last week’s big semi-annual clearance sale at Claudia Jewelry on Main Street, do not fret: there are still some smashingly stunning pieces on sale. Take advantage this weekend and select from their 50-percent off sale that is comprised of six full cases highlighting such items as gold, silver, and designer jewelry.

Just down the street, Sheila Allen Styles’s 50-percent off storewide sale is on, giving you the opportunity to select from their colorful sections of costume jewelry, bags, sunglasses, hair accessories, and even pashminas.

The Boneyard, entering its sophomore year of being included as an anchor store on Main Street, is clearing their clothing shelves to make room or the hot new 2012 trends. Now is the time to stock up on summer clothing, including great bathing suits, at 20 to 70 percent off.

Speaking of getting ready for the sun, Summer Shades, which is open daily, is hosting a 20- to 40-percent off sale. Go in and choose from dozens of brands and hundreds of styles to ensure that you look cool this summer.

Also on Main Street, Past & Presents, a store that offers a unique blend of antiques and new styles in home goods as well as gifts, has a special 40-percent off sale on mirrors and furniture. 20 Main is open Thursday through Sundays with a denim sale that gives you 50 percent off, then an additional 20 percent.

At the end of Main Street, Back Water Trading Company is opening its doors for the season starting Thursday, April 5. They will now be open every day ’til the winter, so head in to see their new spring arrivals for men, women, and children, as well as take advantage of their 25- to 50-percent off sale on selected shoes and clothing.

Over on Winter Street in Nevin Square, Outrageous Home & Clothing is hosting what has to be the biggest sale in Edgartown. With such great selections in their women’s clothing, which is known for being funky and cutting edge, to coordinating jewelry and accessories with the added benefit of being able to find unique pieces for your home, Outrageous could be your one-stop shop. They are open every day (except Tuesday) from 11 am to 4 pm.

Heading in the other direction, bryn WALKER, a well-known women’s clothing and accessories store that caters to women who are looking for comfort with sophisticated quality, has a sale rack that is up to 60-percent off and another section of the store that is offering miscellaneous pieces for $10 and $15.

Down on Dock Street, Soft as a Grape is open and ready for a brisk business. Visit them to stock up on your Martha’s Vineyard logoed clothing, trinkets, and accessories. While there you will receive 50 percent off on many of your selections.

These sales won’t last long, so don’t delay.

In other Edgartown news, we have said so long to Island staple Claire Murray and after four great years, Bluefish has also decided to close their doors. A great big thank you to both stores and the wonderful service they provided to us over the years.

Another great loss is Edgartown Scrimshaw Gallery, who has also closed its doors after 34 years due to owner/artist Thomas DeMont’s death this past December. In its place, J.McLaughlin will move up from last year’s location on Dock Street.

Some stores that are getting ready to open this month are Getty Gear, Jack Wills, and In the Pink. Also of note, there will be the warehouse sale this weekend, April 7 and 8, at Nell, a woman’s clothing and accessory store, at 11 North Summer Street.
