Boston, anyone?

If you care to leave the Vineyard for a mid-spring trip, it may be worth knowing the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater is performing April 26 through 29 at Citi Performing Arts Center, the Wang Theatre. The performances will feature "Home," in its Boston premiere, choreographed by Rennie Harris. Tickets start at $45 and are available online at celebrityseries.org or by calling 866-348-9738. 

Respond in Style

The Tisbury Volunteer Ambulance Association is hosting a charity fashion show next Saturday, April 28, at the Harbor View Hotel in Edgartown. A benefit for the American Heart Association, Vineyard emergency personnel will take to the catwalk wearing fashions that more than 50 Island businesses donated. There will also be raffles, an auction, gift bags, door prizes, hors d'oeuvres, and a cash bar. The party is from 7 to 10 pm, and tickets are $25, available at aboveground Records, The Green Room, Vineyard Hearth Patio and Spa, Alley's, the Tisbury Ambulance Facility, and at the door. 

Last laugh

The Harbor View Hotel announces their last comedy night of the season next Friday, April 27, with Chris Clarke, Ryan Clauson, and Frank Santorelli.

The show, which is 21+, starts at 9 pm. Doors open at 8:30 pm and tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Call 508-627-7000 for advanced tickets.

Campground history

MV Center for Living continues its Cultural Luncheon series this Saturday, April 21, from 12 noon to 2 pm at The Grill on Main in Edgartown. The topic this week is the history of the Martha's Vineyard Campmeeting Association and the Tabernacle, and its continued influence on Vineyard life. Jodie Falkenburg, a Campground tour guide, and Bob and Lynn Gatchell, authors and photographers of two Campground architecture books, will be the guest speakers. Tickets are $25. Belgium awaits

A spot has opened up for the Polly Hill Arboretum (PHA) trip to Belgium from May 10 through 15. Among the several stops during the trip, PHA board member Philippe deSpoelberch will welcome guests to his Herkenrode Garden, originally established in the 18th century. Shearing Day

Island Alpaca invites all to their fifth annual Shearing Day this Saturday, April 21, from 9 am to 5 pm. Get up close to the alpaca, learn about the fleece to fiber transition, and enjoy refreshments, including chili. Admission is $5, and rain or shine the alpacas will be sheared.
