The Edgartown Board of Trade (EBT), which brings us annual events such as the Fourth of July fireworks and Christmas in Edgartown, is starting a new tradition: – the Pink & Green Weekend Festival. This new fete is designed around Mother’s Day weekend and kicks off for the first time Friday, May 11, culminating on Sunday, May 13.

The EBT is a coalition of Edgartown businesses that have come together to fulfill their mission statement: “It is dedicated to fostering an economic climate that enhances and improves the quality of life in the community and it will work to accomplish these tasks while protecting the historic character of the town, the natural beauty and its sense of community,” as stated on their website.

Its current goal is to “promote the events of our members during the weekend in hopes that more businesses will participate next year by opening in time for this weekend celebration,” according to Christina Cook, owner of The Christina Gallery, located on the corner of North Water Street and Winter Street in Edgartown, a member of the EBT and the chairwoman for the festival.

The event was envisioned by the EBT in hopes that, “this weekend will become our annual season inaugural that will encourage people to come visit Edgartown sooner than the traditional Memorial Day weekend and extend the season a couple of weeks,” continued Ms. Cook. “The Pink and Green Ball will become our annual fundraiser event.

“The Pink and Green weekend was discussed as an event a few years ago. Donaroma’s Nursery had their own event for the last several years and the EBT picked it up this year as an annual weekend celebration.”

The weekend will offer substantial sales at participating stores, specials for food, and numerous entertainment events, including the much-anticipated Pink and Green Ball on Saturday night from 7 to 11 pm at The Field Club in Edgartown. The event features music by The Sultans of Swing, scrumptious hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar, and silent auction. Fret not those with a sweet tooth, there is a special and unique surprise in store for you.

The Ball benefits the EBT so that they may continue to host annual events, and the cost is $75 per person. Space is limited, so call now at 508-939-0199 or visit their website: EdgartownBoardofTrade.com to purchase tickets before they are all gone. Make sure to then bring out the best of your best pink and green outfits, or head in town to one of the many participating stores that have brought in some special pieces to help you complete your festive look, as there will be a prize for the best dressed pink and green couple.

A few other great events not to be missed are: Donaroma’s Nursery Tea Party (who first hosted a pink and green event), and the Harbor View’s cocktail party with music by Kodacrome. For kids, try the Martha’s Vineyard Museum’s Grow Your Own Herb Garden interactive event, or make your own Mother’s Day Crafts at the Edgartown Public Library. To see the complete list of the weekend’s events, along with any particulars, visit the above website.

Shopping highlights include discounts on pink and green items at such stores as: Vintage Jewelry, Vineyard Vines, The Boneyard Surf Shop, and GettiGear. There will also be this season’s new arrivals at all Edgartown stores such as Katydid, a unique women’s clothing and accessories store that benefits from owner Kate Walpole’s handpicked selections, along with sales at stores like Island Outfitters, which is offering 40 percent off all cashmere, and at both hannah b. and Saffron you will receive 10 percent off any full priced item with pink or green in it.

There will also be many shops that are offering gifts with purchase. 20 Main is giving a pair of Fresh Water Pearl earrings to all mothers when they purchase something from the store, and Fresh Produce has a surprise gift with purchase as well as a $10 gift certificate for all moms who spend $100 or more.

There will be wonderful trunk shows, demonstrations, and even an open house at Edgartown Commons where you can see some of their well-priced suites. Trunk shows are being held at both Claudia Jewelry, who is hosting local jewelry artist Brenda Benware, and Edgartown Clothing Company, which is hosting the casual line of Rebecca Minkhoff.

There are several food discounts available during the weekend, an example being Edgartown Pizza which is offering 10 percent off large cheese pizzas if you mention Pink and Green, along with free snacks at many venues, and several restaurants are hosting wonderful Mother’s Day breakfasts/brunches.

Plan ahead for special events and remember to head into Edgartown for Mother’s Day weekend to enjoy all the Pink and Green festivities.
