A cookout on 4th Street in Edgartown ended Sunday with one man stabbed and another under arrest.

About 5:40 pm, Edgartown police responded to a report of a fight in progress at number 32 4th Street. On the way to the address, police learned that a man had been stabbed. They asked for help from Oak Bluffs Police, who also responded.

Police arrested Kevin S. Look, 29, of Edgartown, on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, indecent assault and battery, and malicious destruction of property.

Daniel Edelbach, 22, of Edgartown was treated at the scene for non-life threatening injuries. Police said he suffered a stab wound to the abdomen, and multiple cuts to his hands, as he tried to defend himself.

Edgartown emergency medical services transported Mr. Edelbach to the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. He was released later that evening, according to police.

“Witnesses explained that an intoxicated male had made advances upon the victim’s girlfriend during a cookout, which led to an altercation,” police wrote in a news release. “As the victim and the woman walked to their car to leave, the perpetrator slashed three of the car’s tires and then assaulted the victim with a knife.”

Mr. Look was arraigned in Edgartown District Court on Monday, May 7. The court entered not guilty pleas for him on all three charges, and set bail at $1,000. Mr. Look posted bail and was released later that day.
