It was the weekend of the “super moon,” the weekend of the Taylor family block party, the Chilmark Community Potluck Jam and just a nice sunny Sunday after a week of rain. I personally am a little tired but very satisfied with the weekend. The block party was such a good time, the Taylors are very good at party throwing, and we have the best community up here (like you didn’t know that already) so of course it was great. I think that’s all I’m going to say about it, because if I give too many details away, no one will ever tell me anything ever again (trust me no one tells the town columnist anything juicy) and then I will have nothing to write about.

This Saturday at Morning Glory Farm in Edgartown there will be a May Day Celebration to benefit The Plum Hill School from 11am to 2 pm. There is no admission and there will be a lot of fun things to do.

The monthly blood pressure clinic in Aquinnah will be held next Thursday, May 17, from 2 to 3 pm in the Town Hall. Free and open to all. If you have questions, call 781-534-2543.The MV Center for Living will host its final Cultural Luncheon for this year’s series on Saturday, May 19, from 12 noon to 2 pm at The Grill on Main. The theme for this month’s luncheon is The Legacy of Farming and its Influence on our Way of Life. Program speakers are: Island Grown School coordinator Melinda Rabbitt DeFeo, Morning Glory Farm owners Jim and Deborah Athearn, and Elisha Smith. The ticket is $25. For reservations and information, call Leslie Clapp at 508-939-9440. You can also get a ticket from June Manning because she is on the board.

The Junior High Football team has created and organized a fundraiser for the cancer organization, Relay for Life. It is next Saturday, May 19, from 4 to 9 pm, rain or shine, at the M.V. Boys & Girls club. There will be a bounce house and face painting and other fun things to do for kids of all ages.

This weekend is of course Mother’s Day. Stop by the library on Saturday for a special Mother’s Day themed craft. You can also go to Chilmark Chocolates and get your hard-working mama some sweets. And you might also want to give her a day off.

In honor of Mother’s Day I like to give a shout-out to all the Aquinnah moms I know, please forgive me if I forget someone, or better yet tell me who I forgot and I’ll write it down for next year.

Happy Mother’s Day, June, Anne, Juli, Heidi, Ameera, Ona, Berta, Carla, Adrianna, Saskia, Anja, Diotima, Faith, Roxanne, Nonie, Noni, Alex, Noli, Theresa M., Jeanie, Joan, Betty, Jessie, Mallory, Nancy L., Kathy, Teresa F., Christy, Belinda, Nancy B., Barbie, Virginia, Kate, Aretha, Jean, Carolyn, Sarah, Irina, Missy, Natalie, Penny, Wendy, Carol, Megan and in loving memory of Amanda.

Happy Mother’s Day!
