A ‘half-review’ of the super

To the Editor:

This letter is in the form of a question regarding the glowing review of school superintendent James Weiss.

Who conducts these reviews? I understand that it is the teachers who have input into the review the superintendent receives. If this is the case, I believe that a “half-review” is being performed.

I feel that the parents, as taxpayers and because they have a vested interest in the teachers and upper echelon officials of a school, should have a say in the review and recommendations occurring within any school system.

Would the superintendent have gotten such an excellent review if every member of the school community were asked for input. When I say every member, I mean students and parents as well.

Parents are, in effect, the employers of the school board, every teacher, every administrator and athletic coach. I work in the private sector, and my direct supervisor’s review is not solely based on what her employees say. How in anyone’s estimation would that be considered fair?

I think a new system of review should be implemented within our schools, for clarity, for parity, and just because it is the sensible thing to do.
