Over April school vacation, 27 Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School students and four chaperones traveled to Spain.

The group spent seven days and nights in the cities of Madrid, Toledo, and Segovia, and then traveled by high-speed train to Barcelona, where the finished up the trip.

Activities included learning how to dance the flamenco, visiting the famous bascilica “La Sagrada Familia” in Barcelona and touring both the Prado museum and the Royal Palace in Madrid. All the students attempted to speak Spanish as often as possible, with very impressive results.

We were all a little sad to come home. Rich Hammond, one of the chaperones, posted a daily blog at islandstars.com, which is still available to view our daily activities. Rich and his wife, Suzanne, along with high school chemistry teacher Matt Montanile, worked tirelessly to support this trip, and they deserve many thanks for their efforts.

Cindy West, a member of the World Language Department faculty, participated in the trip.
