A former Tisbury resident, wanted by Edgartown police on explosives charges, died May 4 in Canada.

According to Edgartown police, Mr. Kerr checked himself into a hospital in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, suffering from pancreatitis a week earlier.

Edgartown District Court issued an arrest warrant for Mr. Kerr, after the Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad searched a storage unit at Airport Mini Storage on April 17. Inside the unit, police found several boxes of chemicals that could be used to assemble a bomb.

Police learned of the explosives when Mr. Kerr’s ex-fiancée went to Edgartown District Court to seek a restraining order against him. Police asked the newspaper not to identify the woman, because, they said, she feared for her safety.

With Mr. Kerr’s death, police have closed the investigation.

An obituary appears in today’s Martha’s Vineyard Times.
