Residents of the Vineyard and Cape Cod met on Sunday, May 20, at 1 pm, near the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Plant in Plymouth to draw attention to the relicensing process in which the plant is now engaged.

“This is an old plant, the same design and with the same safety issues as the plant in Japan that failed last year,” Cynthia Aguillar of West Tisbury, one of the event’s organizers, said this week. “The radiation released in Japan reached many miles farther than the distance between Plymouth and Martha’s Viineyard.”

The goal, Ms. Aguillar said, is to “attempt to prevent relicensing until our safety concerns are met.”
