Amateur championship at several courses
To the Editor:
Jack Shea's May 17 article about the generosity of the Vineyard Golf Club was interesting but also included one glaring factual error. In reference to the club's general manager, Gerry Daly, Mr. Shea wrote that Mr. Daly was general manager of the Honors Course in Chattanooga, Tennessee, for 18 years, "where he hosted U.S. Amateur titles won by now-professional golf stars Tiger Woods and Matt Kuchar, among others."
In fact, the U.S. Amateur Championship was contested at the Honors Course only once, in 1991, and the winner was Mitch Voges. Tiger Woods won in 1994 (TPC at Sawgrass), 1995 (Newport Country Club) and 1996 (Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club). Matt Kuchar won in 1997 at Cog Hill Golf & Country Club.
