Michael A. San Soucie, 55, of Longwood, Florida died peacefully in his sleep at his residence on May 18, 2012.

He was born May 11, 1957, in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. He spent the first 16 years in Lafayette Hill and Ft. Washington, Penn., attending Whitemarsh Township Schools. He later worked and lived in Falmouth, Martha’s Vineyard, and Longwood, Florida.

Every summer in his youth he looked forward to coming to Martha’s Vineyard and staying in the Campground in the family-owned gingerbread cottage. He liked to fish with his grandfather San Soucie and especially loved fishing from the Menemsha jetty with his brother, Steve (Sooch), and his sister, Debbie. His enthusiasm for the Island led him to working diligently for several years at the Black Dog Tavern in Vineyard Haven, and he was known for proudly wearing his Black Dog tee-shirts. He was supportive and a fan of M.V. Youth Hockey, being a regular faithful attendee with his nephew, Brandon Bortz. He also found time to share his nieces and nephews enthusiasm for horse shows and soccer.

Also on Martha’s Vineyard he had a business of landscaping for private homes in West Tisbury, Edgartown, and Faith MV Church where his gardening interest was shared with his friend Derek Cruz. After relocating to Florida he delivered flowers in Altamonte Springs for many years and he continued his landscaping interest in the Orlando suburbs, particularly in Maitland. His conscientious, faithful, and caring personality kept him busy carefully tending to the Kennedy/Greene property despite the numerous medical challenges he was facing.

Michael was the son of Shirley San Soucie of Oak Bluffs and Longwood, Fla., and the late Emil Roland San Soucie of Ambler, Penn. He leaves his sister, Debra San Soucie Folsom, and her husband, James Folsom, of Longwood and his brother, Stephen (Sooch) San Soucie, and his wife, Francine Lelong, of Saint Pierre Les Nemours, France. He is also survived by nephews Brandon Bortz of Martha’s Vineyard and Benjamin San Soucie of Saint Pierre Les Nemours, and nieces Ashley Bortz of Longwood, Fla., and Stacy Hart of Sanford, Fla. He will also be missed by aunts, uncles, and cousins in California, Florida, Illinois, New Jersey, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania.

Arrangements are under the direction of Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Home in Sanford, Fla. A memorial service will be held in Martha’s Vineyard in August. Donations may be made in Michael’s memory to: Martha’s Vineyard Youth Hockey League, Ice Arena, PO Box 2062, Vineyard Haven, MA 02568 or Faith MV Church Building and Grounds Fund, 316 Meetinghouse Way, Edgartown, MA 02539.
