Celebration season is upon us. With The Taste of the Vineyard Gourmet Stroll on June 14, The Island’s summer social season will take off into a whirlwind of fundraisers, galas, and garden parties.

And weddings are already adding another splash of summer color to Vineyard landscapes from Oak Bluffs to Aquinnah. Now’s the time to add a new party dress (or two) to your wardrobe.

The key ingredients for a Vineyard festive frock are comfort and individuality. You’ll really shine in these party dresses from local stores, all of which will look great with flats — or even flip flops! — as you navigate the tricky terrain of an outdoor gala.

Midnight Farm’s collection truly defines the Vineyard boho sensibility — in everything from furniture and housewares, to clothing and accessories. The Vineyard Haven store’s collection of statement dresses will suit any occasion from casual to elegant. For an evening affair, this Gold Hawk sequined cocktail dress has a bit of a flapper feel and a tease of sparkle. Silk lined. $300

“The quintessential garden party dress” is how owner Tamara Weiss describes this Tracy Reese dyed lace floral frock. A dramatic punch of color is delivered in a very feminine silhouette. $298.

Tie-dye has grown up and this floor-length cotton tiered dress with lace insets proves it. Accessorized, this is the perfect look for a yacht club party or, thrown on with flip-flops, it will make a splash around town. Fully lined. Charlotte Tarantola, $148. Long lacy scarf, Subtle Luxury, $69.

The Great Put-On in Edgartown is the place to go for statement pieces that combine Vineyard laid back with cosmopolitan cutting edge. This eye-grabbing full-length rainbow dress looks like it morphed from a frame at the MOMA, but its slinky silhouette is pure comfort. Graham & Spencer, $298.

This sheer, lemon chiffon strapless silk dress has a subtle pattern and a fishtail side train for a look that’s sweet and innocent with a mischievous streak. Perfect for any midsummer night’s dream. Robert Rodriguez, $375.

Katydid’s striking selection of summertime prints define the Edgartown look. These colorful, comfortable looks, from this quaint Edgartown store, can all do double duty for lunch with the girls or cocktails and dancing at the Daniel Fisher House.
