The next step

May 30, 2012

To the Editor:

Remember the Citizens United resolution at spring town meetings? In all six towns, we voted to support Massachusetts Senate Bill 772, "Restoring Free Speech." It calls for Congress to move to amend the Constitution to affirm that money is not speech and that human beings, not corporations, are persons entitled to constitutional rights.

Now's the time for the next step: petitions with signatures of 1,200 residents will place the contents of S.772 on our statewide November ballot as a public policy question. Look for volunteers holding petitions outside the post offices or grocery stores.

Please continue the momentum established at our town meetings and sign the petition.
