Martha’s Vineyard Sharks lose home opener, 8-4

The Martha’s Vineyard Sharks of the wooden bat Futures Collegiate Baseball League opened their 2012 home schedule with an 8-4 loss to last year’s champs, the Nashua Silver Knights on Saturday at Vineyard Baseball Park in Oak Bluffs.

Ryan Brockett of St. Mary’s College got the start for the Sharks and pitched four innings, giving up four earned runs on seven hits, with three strike outs and two walks. Reliever Matt Hegarty took the loss.

Vineyarder Tad Gold, who was 1 for 4 with a run scored, leads the team in batting after three games with a .462 average.

The Sharks (2-1) host the U.S. Military All Stars today, Sunday at 5 pm.
