West Tisbury resident Richard North Patterson will lend his considerable speaking skill to the West Tisbury Library Foundation’s Speakeasy Series on Wednesday, June 20, at 5:30 pm at State Road Restaurant. Tickets are $75.

Mr. Patterson will discuss his most recent novel, “Fall from Grace,” about the mysterious, violent death of a prominent New England patriarch who exposes the family’s dark secrets.

The book, Mr. Patterson’s 16th New York Times bestseller, is a family drama set on Martha’s Vineyard. It is the first part of a trilogy, to be followed by a prequel, “Loss of Innocence”, and a sequel, “Eden in Winter.”

In a review in the April 25 MV Times, Jack Shea wrote, “‘Fall From Grace’ is…the best I have read from him. And we get a bonus. It’s set on the Vineyard, start to finish…Mr. Patterson includes some wickedly spot-on looks at life as it’s lived here, both in glitzy season and during the often dark and seamy off-season.”

Mr. Patterson is a frequent speaker on political, geopolitical, legal, and social issues, including support for reproductive rights and against gun violence. He has spoken about the Israeli-Palestinian dilemma at such forums as the National Press Club in Washington. His articles on politics, literature, law, and foreign policy have been published in numerous publications, including the London Times, Wall Street Journal, Boston Globe and The Washington Post. His novels often center on one or more of these issues.

He has served as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Ohio, a trial attorney for the Securities & Exchange Commission, and was the SEC’s liaison to the Watergate Special Prosecutor. In 1993, he retired from the practice of law to devote himself to writing.

In 2012, Mr. Patterson will receive the Silver Bullet Award from the International Thriller Writers Association for his contributions to the wider community.

The Speakeasy Series, with noted authors, benefits the library’s capital campaign. In addition to hors d’oeuvres and light refreshments, each Speakeasy offers a chance to mingle and speak with an author in person.

The Speakeasy Series continues on Wednesday, July 11, at the Granary Gallery in West Tisbury with noted local painters Ray Ellis and Allen Whiting.
