To the Editor:
We lost a cultural icon on Martha’s Vineyard this week, and everyone here is feeling the loss. Richard Lee was a dear friend and a brilliant artist. At one of his wonderful parties, Richard announced that all of his one- of-a-kind magnificent masks were ours for the taking. It was almost like a fire sale in the Filene’s Basement cashmere sweater aisle.
We weren’t exactly grabbing because all of them were so remarkable, but you didn’t want to take too much time deciding. Ours has had a prominent place in our home, so a piece of this generous, funny, and beautiful man has been living with us all these years. Richard, our hearts hurt with the thought of not seeing you again.
