Mon Amour is a new restaurant in town. Chef/owner David Spooner invites you to come by to check it out and perhaps enjoy coffee and dessert. He is a fine chef, making his own country paté as well as breads and desserts. Lunch is served Monday through Friday and dinners every evening. The trick is to find it. At 395 State Road, Amour is tucked behind the video store, just past Cronig’s Market if you’re heading up Island.

Our Island Community Chorus will present the summer concert at the Tabernacle this Friday at 8 pm.

Congratulations to those hard workers who put together the Grace Church Lobster Rolls for you every Friday. Once again they were chosen for the Best of the Vineyard 2012 award. They have been voted the best every year since 2007.

A visiting musician will share 500 Years of Music for Guitar on Saturday evening at Grace Church. Guitarist and composer Peter Griggs explores the music of the classical guitar at 7:30.

It’s what we have been waiting for. The Vineyard Haven Band concerts begin in Owen Park this Sunday evening at 8 pm. Rain date is Monday. Bring your blankets and chairs and supper if you wish. Enjoy the music with a fine view of the harbor.

Featherstone now offers Musical Mondays from 6:30 to 8 pm on the outdoor stage. On the 2nd of July you can enjoy pop and soul music with Joanne Cassidy & Friends. A week later listen to folk, country and blues with Tristan Israel, Nancy Jephcote, and Paul Thurlow. Don’t forget: Tuesdays are flea market day.

The Artist will be shown at the Vineyard Haven Library on Tuesday, July 3, at 7 pm. An actor from the silent screens bemoans the new era of talking pictures. He meets a young dancer lighting up talkies like no one else. Served up with free popcorn and lemonade.

Don’t forget the Vineyard Haven Library has paperback “beach books.” You can return that paperback or replace it with a new one. If these paperback books are damaged by sand or water, they can be easily replaced.

You can enjoy lobster rolls and clam chowder in air-conditioned comfort with plenty of parking. The veterans offer this on Tuesday evenings from 4:30 to 7 pm at the Legion Hall.

Help the veterans next Wednesday on the Glorious Fourth. They need your help to put up 425 flags in Oak Grove Cemetery to honor the men and women who have served our country. Help is needed in the morning to put up the flags at 7:30 and again to help take them down. They will come down at 2 pm to give you plenty of time to get to the parade. As Ed Colligan says, “we can use all the help we can get.”

Celebrate the Glorious Fourth on Main Street. Tisbury shop keepers will emerge and ring bells for 2 minutes at 2 pm. A proclamation by President Kennedy in 1963 urged that we mark Independence Day “this year and every year following by the ringing of bells.”

Americans have traditionally celebrated freedom by ringing bells, from sleigh bells to church bells, throughout history. It is worth remembering what a gift it is to be free.

Louisa Gould is offering workshops this summer. Sign up now for basic digital photography, portrait and fashion photography, or a one-day Workshop on the Water on July 15. There is also a week-long workshop on photographing the Vineyard landscape. See marthasvineyardworkshops.com for details.

Congratulations to Juliana and Robert ‘Roger’ Rogers on Sunday when they are celebrate 40 years of marital bliss.

Big bunches of birthday balloon wishes go out today to Emma Kristal and Barbara Harnen. Tomorrow is a special day for Mary Jacobson, and Saturday belongs to Lynne Benson. Sioux Eagle and Marina Lent party on Monday. Wish the best on Tuesday to Bob Benson, Cora Medeiros, and Larry Gomez. Birthday parties and fireworks celebrate our nation’s birthday and also that of Sue Fairbanks and Steve Nichols on Wednesday.

Heard on Main Street: “This is all the heaven we’ve got, right here where we are.”
