Charlayne Hunter-Gault will be at Cousen Rose

Journalist and Vineyard summer visitor Charlayne Hunter-Gault will sign her book, “To the Mountaintop,” at Cousen Rose Gallery in Oak Bluffs July 7, from 5 to 7 pm. Shaw Cramer shows Heather Sommers

Heather Sommers will exhibit her clay sculptures in New Directions at Shaw Cramer gallery from July 9 to 16. The artist will give a talk about her work at the gallery at 6 pm on July 10. Louisa Gould plans reception, artist talks

The Louisa Gould Gallery in Vineyard Haven will host a reception for artists Carol Rowan, Robert Jewett, Maya Farber, and Tim Coy on July 6, from 5 to 7 pm. Wes Nagy will provide music.

Ms. Rowan’s recent work focuses on her travels to Australia, which she will talk about on July 5, 5:30 pm.

A Vineyard summer resident, Mr. Jewett has a new series of glass window sculptures that he will talk about at the gallery at 6 pm on July 9.

Gossamer Gallery plans plein air sessions

The Gossamer Gallery in Chilmark has scheduled two invitational plein air painting sessions on July 7, from 9 am to 12 noon and 3 to 6 pm. The paintings produced will be available for viewing and purchase. Prospective participants should rsvp at 508-645-7978. The following day, July 8, from 5 to 7 pm, the gallery will hold a reception for artists Magi Leland and Anne Martin.

Chilmark Library displays Ed Schulman paintings

Look for work by Ed Schulman on the walls of the Chilmark Library until July 24. A new juried member at the Old Sculpin Gallery, Mr. Schulman showed there last month. Field Gallery presents two new artists

Lambert’s Cove Glass opens in Menemsha

Alan Cottle has been making furniture for years. Now he has added glass blowing to his many skills. His work in both disciplines is on display and for sale at this intimate gallery in Menemsha. Located on Basin Road between The Copperworks of Martha’s Vineyard and Beetlebung Coffee House, the gallery is open Tuesday through Sunday, from 10:30 am to 5 pm.

Master classes in landscape painting

From July 9 to 14, Mark Bullen will offer intensive classes in outdoor painting. Mr. Bullen’s class provides the opportunity to acquire the skills to achieve drawing, form, and color in personal work.

The class, beginning at 2 pm and ending at 6 pm daily, will meet at landscape sites across the Island. One can select either a one-, two-, or three-day session, with any combination of days available. A daily session costs $150. Early registration is recommended.
