The Fourth of July has passed but not without some tragedy. We send condolences to the families of the accident victims and speedy recovery to those who are still injured. Please be careful on the roads. Not only for your own sakes but for those sharing the roads with you. Remember, pedestrians, bicyclists, moped riders and motor vehicles all must share our narrow streets.

On Saturday, July 14, at 1 pm, the Annual Tabernacle Flea Market takes place, rain or shine. Come buy your treasures from over 40 vendors.

Family Movie night at the Tabernacle is Tuesday, July 17 at 7 pm. The film is “A Bug’s Life.” All are welcome. Free will offering. Please bring a nonperishable food donation for the Island Food Pantry.

The Martha’s Vineyard Sharks, the Island’s own college level baseball team, will host a “Hospice of Martha’s Vineyard” night on Sunday, July 15. Come and fill the stadium with supporters of Hospice of MV. Meet the members of the Board of Directors and the fundraising volunteers!

David Murphy, youngest child of artist Stanley Murphy, will present a slide show of his father’s work on Thursday, July 12, at 5:30 at the Katherine Cornell Theatre. Along with narration from David, Stan’s grandson John will play music on his grandfather’s Martin guitar.

Condolences to the family William P. Wheaton Sr. of Plainfield, N.J., who died on July 1. He was the brother of Hayward Wheaton of Oak Bluffs and the brother-in-law of Calvin Parks.

The Good Shepherd Parish continues to offer breakfast every Sunday morning through Labor Day (except August 19 and 26) at St. Augustine’s Church hall in Vineyard Haven, from 8:30 to 10 am. Chef Joe Capobianco and crew are serving up a delicious breakfast of French toast or pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, home fries, fresh fruit salad, a variety of muffins, toast and Danish, yogurt, granola, cold cereals, juice, coffee, tea and bottled water. It’s a great way to start your day before heading to the beach or other activities with family and friends. And the cost is only $7 per person.

The second concert of the MV Chamber Music Society of the 2012 Summer Concert Festival is on Monday, July 16, at the Old Whaling Church in Edgartown and on Tuesday, July 17, at the Chilmark Community Center. Concerts start at 8 pm.

Through the summer at the Oak Bluffs Library are many children’s programs. On Thursday, July 13, at 6 pm one of our most popular programs, “Below Sea Level,” is scheduled. Michael Wooley will host a slide show and 14-minute film of the most unusual and astounding creatures below sea level. All ages.

Friday, July 13, at 10 am you can enjoy Outdoor Crafts and Fun and build your own bug house then use a magnifying glass to hunt bugs in the library’s backyard. Use leaves and shells to make solar prints to take home. This is for ages 6 and up. Weather permitting. Limit 20. Pre-registration is required. On Thursday, July 19 at 10 am children’s author Becky Loescher will read from her book, “Where Horses Fly,” about the Flying Horses carousel. For ages 3 and up.
