A month into the season, last year’s finalists, the Snaps and Creamers, finally met on the diamond Tuesday night at Veterans Park.
The teams came into the game tied for first with 6-1 records and the game lived up to its billing. As was the case in the 2011 final, the Snaps got the decision, leaving the field 7-5 winners.
The Snaps struck first with two runs in the first. Then, in the third, keyed by a Carissa Harris home run, Team Green tacked on four more.
The Creamers fought back in the fourth to cut the lead in half on Trisha Jendrick’s three-run homer.
In the fifth, Chrissie McCarthy belted a round-tripper to give the Snaps a 7-3 lead. Again, the Creamers responded, adding two in the sixth. The Snaps looked likely to increase their lead in the bottom half of the inning until Jendrick quelled the threat with an unassisted double play.
In the top of the seventh, the Creamers threatened with two base runners, but Crystal Roy made a terrific catch in right field and Lauren Merry made a force out at second to seal the win.
The other scheduled 6:15 start ended as a forfiet victory for the Late Fees over the Shady Ladies, who could not field enough players.
In the late game, under the lights, the Honeys blanked the Rug Sox, 13-0.
Last Thursday, July 12, the Creamers slugged out a 19-6 five-inning win over the Rug Sox at Veterans Park. In Edgartown, the Late Fees downed the Shady Ladies, 20-7, in six innings.
The current standings have the Snaps in first at 7-1, followed by the Creamers (6-2), Honeys (4-4), Rug Sox (3-5), Late Fees (3-4), and Shady Ladies (0-7).
