Oak Bluffs

It seems as if I no sooner see an advertised event taking place this summer and plan to go, when suddenly it has taken place and I missed it again. Everything seems to move so quickly in the summer — except for the traffic.

Saturday night, I was at Net Result and there was former Oak Bluffs teaching assistant Gloria Darden holding court. She was speaking to one person after another who came up to greet her, everyone most pleased to see her and she returning their greetings in happy manner. One of her former students, now close to 30 years of age, came out from behind his cooking station to give her a huge hug. Isn’t it amazing what an impact one person can have on a community?

Friends around the Island are missing Laurie Jacobs who recently moved to Madison, Conn., because of a job offer that she couldn’t refuse. Laurie is an interior designer and met up with some former classmates who own a large firm in New Haven and after much tough decision making decided this is what she had to do. Laurie had made many friends and had been considered member of the Billings family. She promises to be back to visit at Fair time!

Congratulations to Lindsey Smith and Rahmal Hopkins who recently became engaged. Send good wishes to this wonderful young couple.
