Oak Bluffs police report calmer weekend, point to weather

Oak Bluffs Police reported that after last weekend’s record-setting pace, relative calm had returned. The cloudy, rainy weather may have played a role, Lieutenant Tim Williamson said.

Police were called to disturbances ranging from a breaking and entering at a house, to a young woman who pushed another young woman through a glass door at Giordano’s.

On Friday, at 10:04 pm, officers responded to Giordano’s Restaurant & Clam Bar where a caller reported an assault. Officers arrested an unidentified juvenile for assault and battery by means of dangerous weapon after she “pushed the head of another female through the glass door,” according to a police log.

Early morning Saturday, a caller reported someone breaking into a house on Narragansett Avenue. Police officers said they found Stamford, Connecticut, resident Ian McKeown, 28, hiding underneath a car on a nearby street. He was arrested for breaking and entering in the nighttime and destruction of property.

There were no arrests made Sunday. The department reported 105 incidents, five arrests, and three people taken into protective custody.

Last weekend, Oak Bluffs police answered 140 calls for assistance, made 21 arrests, and took four people into protective custody during a busy weekend of activities that included two big crowd draws, the Oak Bluffs Monster Shark Tournament and the Portuguese-American Club Feast.
