The summer Olympics have begun, and the world is participating vicariously through the athletes who appear on their TV or computer screens. In the spirit of the event, we took to Oak Bluffs streets to find out, "If you were an Olympian, what sport would you want to compete in?"

Marcia Burley of Massachusetts

"I would be a gymnast or a diver. I was on a gymnastics team in high school many, many years ago. I think diving is poetic."

David Elias of New York

"Olympic handball. It's a real sport. It's a lot of fun, an entertaining sport that we don't play a lot here."

Danielle Elias and son Henry of New York

"When [Henry] grows up, he's going to be in a triathalon."

Ron Gill of Connecticut

"Equestrian, because I own horses. They're big friends."

Pharoah Sisler-Dubetz of Lancaster, PA

"Swimming. I like the water when it's hot out."

Trella Dubetz of Lancaster, PA

"I would do synchronized swimming."

Linda Black of Vineyard Haven

"Is ice cream-eating a sport?"
