Sultry chanteuse Jessica Ashley has a big voice equal to most anyone singing today. She has been compared to her idols Mariah Carey, Alicia Keys, and the late Whitney Houston. She is bringing her band with her from New York to perform her own music at the Old Whaling Church this coming Sunday.
She is a songwriter and pianist whose album "Prelude" is a popular, soulful follow-up to her dozens of YouTube cover hits. Ms. Ashley co-wrote and co-produced the songs on "Prelude," and has done the same for other well-known artists, including JoJo.
Guest artist Sally Taylor, who has spent many years on the Vineyard, will open the show with an acoustic guitar and vocal style not unlike her parents, James Taylor and Carly Simon, and brother Ben Taylor. Ms. Taylor has produced three albums and she toured extensively before taking time off to raise her son and pursue philanthropic work. This is her first major stage show on the Vineyard in 10 years.
Jessica Ashley and Sally Taylor, 7 pm, Sunday, Aug. 12, Old Whaling Church, Edgartown. Doors open at 7 pm. Tickets are $40; $70 premium, and are available at ticketsmv.com and at aboveground Records in Edgartown.
