Tip of the week
Life masters Mollie Whalen and Joe Ashcroft will soon be heading back to the world of academia, but they promise to keep providing Islanders with tips to improve play well into the winter months.
They remind players that, "when playing duplicate, try not to let the opponents get away with a low level contract, like 1 spade. If your opponents are dropping out of the bidding at such a low level, you and your partner are likely to have as many points as they do. So don't pass out the hand if you can either make a take-out double or bid a five-card suit. Be cautious however, when the vulnerability is against you."
