Alex Friedman of Edgartown, captain of the Dazed and Confused, was fishing 100 miles south of the Vineyard last week when he caught a 190 pound bigeye tuna.

Captain Friedman turned down offers from Japanese fish buyers and offered the tuna instead to the Home Port restaurant in Menemsha as part of his commitment to keeping fish local, according to an email received from Sarah Nixon, co-owner with her husband Bob of the Home Port, Beach Plum and Menemsha Inns, all in Chilmark.

One day after the fish was caught, it was paraded through the dining room and appeared on the menu of the Home Port Restaurant and the Beach Plum Inn.
