Children's book picks from Sondra Murphy, Children's Librarian at the Oak Bluffs Library
"Don't Squish the Sasquatch!" by Kent Redeker –
One of my favorites for reading out loud, this is the story of a Sasquatch who doesn't like to be squished. When he finds himself on a very crowded bus with a crazy cast of characters, the whole story goes "ka-blooey!"
"The Lions of Little Rock" by Kristin Levine – Two girls separated by race form an unbreakable bond during the tumultuous integration of Little Rock schools in 1958. A book of substance with a little humor thrown in, perfect for any pre-teen or teen.
"Temple Grandin: How the girl Who Loved Cows Embraced Autism and Changed the World" by Sy Montgomery — One of my favorite new biographies, this book goes through Temple's life in an eye-catching format. Through pictures, sketches, and a foreword written by Temple herself, this book is an important read for everyone.
