Children’s book picks from Sondra Murphy, Children’s Librarian at the Oak Bluffs Library
“Don’t Squish the Sasquatch!” by Kent Redeker –One of my favorites for reading out loud, this is the story of a Sasquatch who doesn’t like to be squished. When he finds himself on a very crowded bus with a crazy cast of characters, the whole story goes “ka-blooey!”
“The Lions of Little Rock” by Kristin Levine – Two girls separated by race form an unbreakable bond during the tumultuous integration of Little Rock schools in 1958. A book of substance with a little humor thrown in, perfect for any pre-teen or teen.
“Temple Grandin: How the girl Who Loved Cows Embraced Autism and Changed the World” by Sy Montgomery — One of my favorite new biographies, this book goes through Temple’s life in an eye-catching format. Through pictures, sketches, and a foreword written by Temple herself, this book is an important read for everyone.
