Second Vineyard Warrior Triathlon is Sunday

The second annual Vineyard Warrior Triathlon starts in Oak Bluffs on Sunday, September 9, at 6:45 am. The event combines a one-mile swim, a 24.7-mile bike ride, and a 6.2-mile run into one race spanning the towns of Oak Bluffs, Tisbury, West Tisbury, and Edgartown. The event organizers expect a sell-out, with 800 registered participants.

The swim is at Inkwell Beach. The bike ride is from Waban Park via Beach Road to Edgartown, Edgartown-West Tisbury Road past Martha’s Vineyard Airport, then to Vineyard Haven via State Road, reaching Five Corners via Causeway, Skiff and Lagoon Pond Roads, and finally back to Oak Bluffs via Beach Road.

Triathletes will run on Seaview Avenue, Oak Bluffs Avenue, East Chop Road, Eastville Road, County Road south, Wing Road, Norris, Vineyard Avenue, Dukes County, Masonic, Circuit, Tuckernuck, Naumkeag, around Ocean Park to Seaview, and back to the finish line in Waban Park.

Some of the event proceeds will be donated to the Martha’s Vineyard Boys and Girls Club and to the Oak Bluffs Park Department. All triathletes must be at least 16 years old.
